The European Commission has been taking an increasingly interventionist approach to the role of patents and other IP in markets such as software, pharmaceuticals and mobile telecommunications, closely examining the economic effects of IP.

Daniel Beard QC and Derek Ridyard of RBB Economics will provide a guide to the more significant cases and recent events, and an analysis of the legal and economic bases on which the EC is working, its direction of travel, and the indicators which businesses need to bear in mind.
