Events

The UK group of AIPPI organises talks and research events concerning intellectual property throughout the year. Our events count for CPD under the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the Bar Standards Board and IPReg requirements.

Most events provide drinks afterwards and the opportunity to meet the speakers and other attendees.

Attendance at our events is free for members and new applicants for membership.

Meet the Deputies: An evening with the IP Deputy Judges

Before there were part-time judges at the Unified Patent Court, there were part-time Deputy High Court Judges in England & Wales. With the increasingly busy docket of IP cases in our courts, Deputy Judges have been an important resource of expertise and skill in our litigation system. Deputy Judges come from all areas of the profession, including from the Bar, law firms and in-house. In 2024, the number of Deputy Judges who come from the IP profession is at the highest it has ever been. These part-time judges are hearing all types and sizes of IP cases, from design rights to SPCs and everything in between.

AIPPI UK invites you to Meet the Deputies. We will be joined by some of the current Deputy Judges, including Daniel Alexander KC, Campbell Forsyth, Ian Karet, Charlotte May KC, Tom Mitcheson KC, David Stone and Michael Tappin KC, to discuss their perspectives from the bench, how their approach at the bench and their continuing work in practice informs each other and how they balance the two.
